Khai Dinh Tomb

It’s only 10km from Hue city centre, Khai Dinh Tomb which is the last architectural work of Nguyen Dynasty as well as the most typical in all of tombs thanks to modern building materials and the influence of many foreign architectural styles. 

Khai Dinh Tomb or named Ung Lang which is a tomb of King Khai Dinh located in Chau Chu mountain – nowadays, it belongs to Thuy Bang commune, Huong Thuy town.

The Tomb was begun to be built in 1920 and it lasted 11 years to finish. It has a unique architect made from good matetials so it has still remained almost status up to present.

Khai Dinh Tomb is a combination of East-West Culture, reflecting the King's lavish preferences when he was alive.

Khai Dinh Tomb can overwhelm visitors, as rectangular blocks rise up to 127 steps, influenced by many styles of architecture such as Hindu (pillar tower), Buddhism (pillars of stoupa statue), Roman Gothic architecture (octagonal columns, wide arches)…

Thien Dinh Palace, the burial place of King Khai Dinh, has been the site of the most outstanding and most artistic value so far. On the three floors, "Cuu Long An Van" (nine dragons hidden in the clouds) are skilled craftsmanship grafted from rare porcelain and stones imported from China and Japan.

In Thien Dinh Palace, there are two statues of King Khai Dinh. The outside Statue - the king dressed in French soldiers, casted in Vietnam. The statue on the altar, the ratio of 1: 1 was casted in France by two french artisans, and inlaid gold by Hue artisans. The tomb of the king is located right below this altar.

Another special feature that visitors coming to Khai Dinh Tomb must admire that all the details are decorated with porcelain glass mosaics.
