A Decade Later: Cycling Through Connection – “US–Vietnam: A New Journey”
Some journeys are not measured by the distance traveled, but by the values they leave behind. Ten years have passed since the cycling expedition “US–Vietnam: A New Journey,” led by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, reached its final destination in the Imperial City of Hue on January 30, 2016. Yet the spirit of that ride—840 kilometers from Hanoi completed over seven days—continues to resonate today.
Where Diplomacy Met the Open Road
Rather than conference rooms or formal meetings, this journey unfolded along winding highways, peaceful countryside roads, and dramatic natural landscapes. Cycling through seven provinces, the team visited some of Vietnam’s most iconic destinations, including Cuc Phuong National Park, Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, and Phuoc Tich Ancient Village—each offering a glimpse into Vietnam’s extraordinary biodiversity, cultural depth, and timeless charm.
Every stop along the way told a story of heritage preserved through generations, nature in its purest form, and the warmth and hospitality of the Vietnamese people.
One Journey, Many Messages
More than a cycling tour, “US–Vietnam: A New Journey” carried powerful messages of economic growth, healthcare cooperation, educational exchange, cultural heritage preservation, and environmental protection. By choosing cycling as the mode of travel, the journey also promoted sustainable tourism and highlighted Vietnam as a destination committed to green development.
Through this experience, Vietnam’s natural beauty and rich cultural identity were shared with the international community in an authentic and meaningful way.

The Power of Partnership
The success of the journey was made possible through the professional support of Asia Pacific Travel Company, whose expertise ensured a smooth, safe, and memorable experience throughout the route. Ambassador Ted Osius later shared that the trip was truly wonderful and deeply enjoyed by all, reflecting a strong spirit of collaboration, trust, and shared purpose.

Ten Years On: A Journey That Still Moves Forward
Looking back a decade later, this cycling adventure stands as far more than a physical journey. It has become a symbol of connection, mutual understanding, and sustainable development between Vietnam and the United States.
Though the wheels stopped turning years ago, the legacy of “US–Vietnam: A New Journey” continues to inspire, paving the way for deeper partnerships and more meaningful cooperation in the years ahead.
