At some hotels in Vietnam, water is potable but you can not drink it from the public water system in the street. There is so many kind of drinks such as: coffee, tea, mineral water, fruit juices, soft drinks, alcohol, wine, champagne and liquor... The most suitable for you while traveling is the mineral water sealed in plastic bottles (well-known marks like La vie - Aquafina...). At leisure, you can drink coffee and Vietnamese green tea or coconut milk, coca-cola, and Pepsi. If you like alcoholic drinks, you should taste local beer 333 and Hanoi Beer or local alcohol made from rice. Otherwise, if you are curious or adventurous, try a little bit of snake wine or the like. It is said to be more powerful for men. Frozen drinks usually are better than drinks with ice.
If you use drinks in the minibar at the hotel, on a boat, or bar/restaurant, the price is more expensive than at shops, and supermarkets.
Vietnam is a beer culture and Hanoi is the “bia hoi” capital of Vietnam. Bia hoi (draught beer) is one of the things you should not be missed. It’s the most popular beverage throughout the country and the cheapest beer in the world, 2,000d a glass. For higher quality, there are plenty of local as well as imported brands, such as 333, Carlsberg, Hanoi, Tiger, Saigon, LaRue, San Miguel, and Heineken.
Besides beer, Vietnam is also a place to enjoy tea (Thai Nguyen tea or “Thai tea”), coffee (“Trung Nguyen coffee”), or something heavier, wine (“Nep Moi” – the Vietnamese whisky).
