The currency of Vietnam is called the Vietnamese dong (VND). It was first introduced in 1978, replacing the previous currency of the country, the South Vietnam piastre. The dong is currently issued by the State Bank of Vietnam in denominations of 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000 and 500,000 VND. The dong is widely accepted throughout Vietnam, and you can exchange your currency at most banks, hotels, and currency exchange booths throughout the country.

Unlike most of Vietnam's neighboring countries, the US Dollar is widely accepted.
