This tour has special focus on Hmong communities and culture and their way of life high up in the mountain around Luang Prabang. Visitors will experience a unique and great hospitality as well as great nature. The trails are medium but difficult in rainy season and offer a mixture between hillside walks, small jungle and bamboo forest trails…always high up. You stay overnight in very basic village home stays with families and close to Lao rural life on the countryside. Bring the spirit of an explorer and enough tolerance!

Full itinerary
Day 1: Luang Prabang > Nam Ou river
preferably early around 8.00 A.M. and head out north along the Mekong river road. You drive about 60km out of town to find yourself in remote Lao for your three day trekking adventure. After arriving at the beautiful Nam Ou river, you start your trekking activity to the first stop, a Khamu village (Pha Phong) After 2 hrs. more on tiny villagers trails you arrive in Houay Wai, a small Hmong community in the mountains whose families will be your hosts for the night.
Total walking about 4 hrs. +
The evening we spend together with the family and the children of the village who will come to see the foreign long-nose 'falangs'. Take your time to relax and to ask questions or help your guide as he prepares a nice trekking-dinner. You have time to take a bath in the small fresh water well.
Overnight in villagers home
Day 2: Hmong villages
Hmong village north of Luang Prabang - Trekking activity touryou hike/trek for a longer stretch after an early breakfast to have another night and enough time in the Hmong village. Again they will be warm and say their curious welcomes to you. You walk over small hills and up and down to the higher areas where the Hmong normally live.The village is laid back but very poor, so you may bring some things for the school, such as books and pens.Ask the locals and your guide to learn more about the believes and animist religion or just listen to the traditional Hmong chanting…
Total walking about 5-6 hrs.
OPTION:
If you are interested in more experiences with Hmong culture and learning in depth you may stay in this village for another day. You will than follow a normal day of a local family, going out into the field and forests. You have to assist in the daily work of your hosts family! Than this is a 4 day program
Trekking north of Luang Prabang - Pak Ou District
Day 3: Luang Prabang
of this trekking adventure your trails guide you down back to road connected areas. Other village visits are included and the re-transportation to Luang Prabang will take about 2 hrs. in one of the local Songthaews.
Total walking time about 3-4 hrs.
