Thien Hau is one of the most ancient pagodas in Ho Chi Minh City.

Located on busy Nguyen Trai St in Cholon (Chinatown), Thien Hau Pagoda is dedicated to Thien Hau Thanh Mau, goddess of the sea, protector of fishermen and sailors. Ba Thien Hau temple was built in 1760 to honor Mazu the ‘Lady of the Sea’ and when you enter through the Iron Gate you will see massive stone incense burners in front of the entrance of Mazu’s altar.

It was recognized as National Artistic Architecture Monument in 1993. Both feature interesting Chinese-Buddhist style architecture and interiors with pagodas, courtyards, altars and paintings. The exterior is beautifully designed with the traditional curvy roof on which small porcelain figures are standing symbol for themes from Chinese religion and legends.

Besides the value of architectural art, sculpture and ancient artifacts, the pagoda is not only a place to satisfy the religious but it’s also a spot of mutual assistance Chinese people. Most people coming here to pray for peace, love and for their children... Thien Hau Pagoda still welcomes so much residents and visitors to worship daily.
