CuChi tunnel
Cu Chi Tunnels is an underground defense system in Cu Chi District, 70 km to the north-west of Ho Chi Minh City. Cu Chi Tunnel is one of the greatest works constructed by Vietnamese people as a place to live and hide from being attacked during wars.
The tunnel system includes infirmary, accommodation, kitchen, storage, working room, underground tunnel system. The tunnel system is about 250 km in length and has ventilation systems at the bushes.
Currently, the Cu Chi tunnels are protected about 120 km and become an attractive tourist destination for visitors to Ho Chi Minh City. The complex of tunnels at Củ Chi has been preserved by the government of Vietnam, and turned into a war memorial park with two different tunnel display sites, Ben Dinh and Ben Duoc. Visitors can experience the life under the tunnel as the real previous residents (to visit, eat the food of the former residents).
The tunnel system is divided into 3 floors, from the "backbone" to the numerous short, and long branches. The first floor is 3m under the ground, resistant to shells and weight of tanks, armored vehicles .… The second floor is 5 meters away from the ground, can resit small bombs. The last floor is 8-10m from the ground. The ways up and down the basement are arranged by secret tunnels.
In the morning, you can experience walking on your knees inside the tunnel. Then, in the afternoon you can visit Cu Chi Ethnic Minorities Villages, which is about 8 kilometers from Cu Chi Tunnel. This brings you a chance to indulge yourself in a peaceful countryside landscape.
In addition to creep into the tunnel to feel the atmosphere in the past, tourists are also heard the introduction, the documentary film about the fighting glorious Cu Chi guerrilla, enjoyed the dishes “khoai my”, specialty of Cu Chi- a kind of junk food which can be eaten as a breakfast also.
